Keeps: Family Vault · Last updated 15 September 2026
The short version: Keeps is designed so that we never see your data. Your documents, scanned text, and family details live on your iPhone and — if you turn it on — in your private iCloud database, which neither we nor Apple can read. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no ads.
What stays on your device
- Scanned page images, OCR text, and extracted fields — stored in a protected local vault behind Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.
- People, family links, reminders, chat history, and app settings.
- Local correction counts — if you fix a document type or field, we record only the labels that changed (never the values) to improve extraction. This never leaves the device unless you choose to paste it into feedback.
iCloud (optional)
If enabled, document metadata and family records sync through CloudKit private database — your own iCloud storage, end-to-end encrypted by Apple; we have no access. Scanned page images stay on the device and are covered by your normal encrypted iCloud Backup.
Apple Intelligence and Private Cloud Compute
- On-device Apple Intelligence processes your documents and Ask Keeps questions by default. Nothing leaves the phone.
- Private Cloud Compute is opt-in and off by default. If you enable it, selected requests are processed by Apple's stateless PCC servers: requests are cryptographically attested, never stored, never used for training, and are not visible to Apple or to us. A per-user daily quota applies.
- No third-party AI service is ever used.
System features
- Camera — used only to scan documents you choose to capture.
- Face ID / Touch ID — biometric checks happen entirely on your device; biometric data is never accessible to the app.
- Notifications & Calendar — reminders and (if enabled) calendar events are created locally.
- Siri & Spotlight — document titles and categories are indexed on-device so you can find them; sensitive values are never indexed.
TestFlight beta
During beta testing, Apple (not us) may share crash logs and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send through TestFlight, per Apple's TestFlight privacy notice. Please avoid including document contents in screenshots you share.
What we collect
Nothing. No personal data, no usage analytics, no device fingerprinting, no advertising identifiers. We do not operate any server that receives your information.
Data deletion
Deleting a document — or the app — removes its data from your device. iCloud-synced data can be deleted from Settings → iCloud.
Children
Keeps is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
